Covent Garden is probably best loved for its independent coffee shops and afternoon tea spots. In and around the Piazza there are almost more cafés than cobblestones so it’s sometimes hard to know which one to choose as your pit stop. As the hot weather sets in, avoiding the crowds becomes even more imperative so take a look at our pick of some of Covent Garden’s best-kept café secrets.

For an afternoon treat head to Muffinski’s; a shop dedicated to bringing you delicious organic muffins. A secret muffin mix is milled exclusively on a farm for Muffinski’s and is available in low fat and vegetarian options. Our favourite flavours are pumpkin spice and peanut butter and strawberry. (5 King Street)

For something a bit more high brow, The Poetry Café is a great place to sit, contemplate and enjoy relaxing refreshments. The café comes alive in the evening and hosts regular open-mic nights for beginners, established poets and musicians. (22 Betterton Street)
